It was HORRID. But we actually made it home. In time.
When we got to the airport, there weren't any flights going out. Because there weren't any planes coming in. It was icy and foggy in Salt Lake that afternoon, so a bunch of flights were delayed, ours being one of them.
As we waited, Matt was thinking a head and was planning alternate places we could fly into. (We were supposed to go back to Kansas City, where our trusty Excursion was waiting for us.)
As the night progressed the Delta person at the counter was letting us know that our flight would still go, but we just were waiting for ________. (Insert 2 or 3 excuses here.) After our flight had been delayed for 3 1/2 hours, she finally came on over the loud speaker and announced that the flight had been cancelled.
Because of Matt's planning, he knew there was a flight leaving to St Louis. The bad news? It was a terminal over and was boarding *RIGHT THEN*. So we picked up our stuff and RAN to the new flight.
As we got there, the agents told us that we couldn't get on that flight. I must have looked like I was about to bawl because as I pleaded, "But we HAVE to be back in Missouri tonight. My husband HAS to be there Monday for work!" the agents booked us on the St. Louis flight. We were the last people on the plane.
Thankfully Delta had free wi-fi on their flights and we were able to get online to book a car from St. Louis. The cheapest we could find was one for $120 a day.
When we finally got into St. Louis and went to pick up our car, we found out we could do a one-way rental to Kansas City for only $89. We were THRILLED.
After driving all night, Matt got home and got his work all ready. He was able to take a nap for an hour before we had to get ready for the day. After work, we drove up to Kansas City, returned the car, got the Excursion and was back home about midnight.
We were SO tired, but not too tired to regret our trip!
